[ARCHIVED] Fire Prevention

Fire marshal 3

The Fire Marshal’s office for the City of Maumelle is tasked with Life Safety through the enforcement of the Arkansas Fire Prevention Code(AFPC).  We take Life Safety very seriously and utilize a number of elements to enforce the AFPC, which are listed below:

Plan Review:  All commercial buildings constructed are required to have the building plans, sprinkler plans and fire alarm plans reviewed by the Fire Marshal’s office before construction begins.  This allows corrections and changes to be made in a pro-active atmosphere for compliance through the AFPC.

Inspections:  All commercial buildings, churches and schools are inspected each year by the Engine and Ladder companies of the city.  The Fire Marshal’s office inspects all daycares, schools and any other buildings that the primary inspection crew needs help with. All large commercial building are pre-planned by the Deputy Fire Marshal on a rotational basis.

Public Education:  All fourth graders enrolled at Pine Forest Elementary participate in a fire department program called Survival Kids.  Survival Kids has a lesson each month that not only covers fires and fire prevention but other areas such as bicycle safety, strange danger and others over the school year. The fire department conducts fire extinguisher training, a Citizens Fire Academy and speaks at numerous public events at churches, Property Owner Associations and others groups each year.

Investigation:  All fires in the City of Maumelle are investigated for cause and origin. The Fire Marshal’s office investigates all large lose fires, suspicious fires ,commercial fires and fires that a death is involved in.  The Fire Marshal and Deputy Fire Marshal in the City of Maumelle are dual certified as fire/arson Investigators and as police officers; as arson and other intentional fire related incidents are criminal acts.

If additional information is needed on one of the elements listed above; please feel free to contact the Fire Marshal’s office at501-851-1337 Ext. 202 or 204
